Mama Loca's

Mama Loca’s is my new favorite place to go on date night with my son. We grab the chess set and head to downtown Sanford.  We don’t worry about getting strange looks; here patrons are encouraged to play.  There are lots of games available for customers, and plenty of space to play them with lots of seating and a large arts and crafts area.

While, the ambiance is great, we really go for the ice cream.  It is homemade and delicious!  There are other items on the menu if you are, dare I say it, not an ice cream lover.  I am not a coffee drinker, but I have heard the lattes are the best in town.

While you are there you can peruse the earth friendly gifts like: Poo Poo paper, made from recycled elephant poo, The Fuzz that Wuzz stuffed animals, or fair trade string dolls.

Dine in customers are served with reusable bowls, glasses and spoons.  Should you need them, take-out containers are all biodegradable disposables. They recycle too.

I’d like to say go to Mama Loca’s just to support a local green business, but the truth is  Aggie’s Delight that keeps me coming back.  Named after one of their customers, it is an irresistible combination of vanilla ice cream, chocolate chunks, and waffle cones. Next time you are in Sanford stop in a try a sample.

Midwives Walking for the Women of the World!

In preparation for The 29th International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Congress, and in celebration of the role of midwives, the ICM is calling on our 99 Member Associations, in 88 countries, representing more than 250,000 midwives, to organize 5 kilometre walks in cities and towns across all our countries on the International Day of the Midwife, 5 May 2011. These walks will merge as a global event where midwives around the world will be advocating to improve maternal and newborn health in our communities and countries, as well as for women in countries far away. Together we will be walking 1000s of kilometres, circling the globe, as we proclaim our commitment to improving maternal and newborn care for all women and their newborns, wherever they live.

For more information, please go to the Road to Durban link on the ICM Congress Website
