If you want to swap out your old shower head for a low flow model, you can! It’s part of “Water Conservation Month” activities sponsored by Orange County.
As an Orange County Utilities water customer, you are eligible to exchange your old high-flow showerhead for a new low-flow device. Replacement showerheads deliver 1.5 gallons per minute.
How to Check Yours
High-flow showerheads deliver 3-5 gallons per minute. To check what type you have gather together
- A bucket that holds more than one gallon of water (mark it at one gallon)
- A clock with a second hand.
First turn on the shower to full flow. Then put the bucket into the water stream. Time how many seconds it takes to fill up to the one-gallon mark. If your bucket fills to the one gallon mark in under 20 seconds you have a high-flow showerhead. If it takes longer than 20 seconds – it is a low-flow showerhead.
What to Bring
Only residential customers qualify and there is a limit of 3 showerheads per family. Bring a recent water bill and the old showerhead(s) with you.

This is a great deal, thanks for posting!
I’d love to know more about these – where can I buy them for use in the UK?
What a useless offer… at the Orange County Utilities Building way out in east BFE Orlando and only between working hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They really don’t WANT anybody to get these or they would have made them more easily accessible… at the very least have had them available at various county agency locations, or even a more centralized location in Downtown Orlando. No way in hell is anybody going to spend $8 in newly raised expressway or greenway tolls and 2 hours out of their day to get a cheap shower head that can be bought for the same price at any local Home Depot.
Orange County Utilities you are USELESS.
@ Slick,
Really? And if Orange County were open during business hours EVERYDAY and ALL offices throughout the county, you would probably complain that your taxpayer $$$ was being wasted. With all these budget cuts, I’m sure that OC employees have their own job and more to do. This is a public service that OC is not required to do. This would save YOU money. Stop griping because you can’t take advantage of this fine opportunity.
Awesome blog you got on water conservation.
