Today I worked the Usborne Books booth and helped with the “Mommy, Leave Me Intact” booth at the Central FL Birth Network’s Third Annual Birth Fair.

Since another consultant was working the booth with me, I had the chance to walk around and meet the other vendors.  Several breastfeeding support organizations were represented as well as local pediatricians, midwives, acupuncturists, and more.  If you didn’t get there today, definitely plan on it next year.  It’s a great way to network with other natural-minded parents and practitioners in the area.

I thought of doing a Central FL Green Guide booth but opted not to since I was already doing two booths.  If I could do it again, I would have tried to get another writer to do the table.  I didn’t bother because I knew most of our writers were already doing their own booths at the fair!  I did hand out some cards though and told several vendors about our new site and what we’re doing.  I also chatted with a few of them about joining us as writers.

If you missed the Birth Fair, you can still benefit from checking out the Central FL Birth Network’s website.  It’s a great resource for parents of young children who want to connect with doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, and more!

During Publix Baby Fest you can find savings on various baby items, some more green than others.  Publix is promoting this as a great time to stock up on everything from diapers to formula and baby care.  In their announcement email, they specifically mention savings on organic formula and baby food.  Publix has an entire Greenwise Market program featuring organic and more natural options (more to come on that in another post).  The baby section has its own Greenwise Market items like baby food, bath and diaper care, toothpaste, lotion and more.  Just look for the Greenwise Market logo in that area.  There is typically a specific section with the logo clearly marking the items.

Publix also offers Baby Club, a program that gives parents of children up to two years old free products, newsletters with coupons and a free parenting book.  Again, some of these items are more green than others.

For more information on Baby Fest simply stop in to your local Publix and ask about the sale and for more information on Baby Club please visit the Publix website.

After being very frustrated in trying to find a Pediatrician in Central Florida that had knowledge of and practiced alternative therapies, was okay with delayed/non vaccinating (she has you sign a waiver), and was pro breastfeeding,I had pretty much given up hope of ever finding my ideal pediatrician. After meeting with yet another prospective pediatrician I had resigned to having to settle for someone. Then my midwife told me about Dr. Lisa Ramey.

I looked at her website and was immediately impressed. I went ahead and made a “Meet the Doctor” appointment. Her staff was very friendly over the phone, and I immediately felt welcomed. I went to her office, and I could tell the buildings we fairly new. When I went inside I was immediately welcomed and felt right at home. The waiting room was separated into well and sick child, and the toys were extremely clean. In fact the whole office was so clean, that when they told me they had been there a year I couldn’t believe it.

Dr. Ramey came out and got us, and my daughter immediately took to her. She was very welcoming and was great with my daughter. I talked to her a little about my concerns from past pediatricians and she told me how she would handle those situations. I was very impressed by her. She is very open with her patients and likes to talk to you about what treatments to take with your child. She wants to know what things are important to you and listen to your concerns. She will do research on something if she doesn’t know much about the topic and get back to you.

She tries to answer all of the after hours calls herself, even if she is out of town. She tried to only go out of town for a day and if she is out of town any more then that she will get another doctor to come in to the office. I was wondering why I had never heard of her before, but apparently she has been on the teaching staff at Florida hospital for 20 years, and has only had her own practice for a year. My daughter didn’t want to leave! She is also very big into preventative medicine, and does the walk for diabetes every year. Her entire staff is warm and wonderful.

She is not quick to hand out prescriptions, and does wonderful alternative therapies such as using BICOM Resonance Therapy. She suggested this for my 3 year old when she got a double ear infection, and after the first of 2 treatments I could already tell a huge difference in her mood. With the 2 treatments we didn’t have to use a prescription. Doctor Ramey and her staff have been great and were even patient and understanding when my daughter was less than cooperative. I am done looking for a new pediatrician.

This is a brand new Montessori school.  While I can’t personally review the New Path Montessori School, I wanted to make sure the link was up on the Central FL Green Guide.  The founder sounds really knowledgeable in the areas of yoga and nutrition in addition to her 18 years of experience as a Montessori teacher.
